I received an eARC of this book for review. This does not affect my review in any way.
Welcome to my tour stop for the book Dig Too Deep by Amy Allgeyer! Also, happy book birthday as it is the release day of Dig Too Deep, too (so many too’s LOL)!
I was really excited for Dig Too Deep before reading it because from reading the synopsis, it sounds so so so awesome! And guess what? It is! Firstly, I really like the cover of Dig Too Deep. I think it really reflects what the book is all about and the colors and illustration are just gorgeous!
The book has just the right pacing. I was never bored throughout the book and I want more after finishing each chapter. It’s a book that anticipates me for what happens next! I haven’t read a book like that for long time.
Liberty, our girl, is a strong character but she was not always like that, especially in the beginning. She had great, but realistic, character development. My only problem would be that something was off with this boy she liked and she didn’t notice it but I kinda get where she is coming from and why she didn’t notice it. But other than that, Lib is fab! The other characters rock too! My favorite would be Lib’s sassy grandmother, though Dobber comes a close second!
Dig Too Deep also provides some information about mountain top removal but without being such an info dump. I’ve heard about MTR and some documentaries also revealed that this thing also happens in some provinces in my country. I didn’t really watched those documentaries before but because of Dig Too Deep, I am now aware of what is happening to those communities.
Dig Too Deep by Amy Allgeyer is unlike any other Young Adult book I have read. Not only that the main character is fierce, strong and determined, she also fought for a very important cause. Dig Too Deep deals with many issues (economic, terminal illness, poverty, addiction, fear, family problems) but the author managed to wove all those things into an insightful and impactful, amazing debut novel. I would surely read Amy Allgeyer’s next books.
